Casino - The Movie

The 1995 movie Casino, by Martin Scorsese takes to an entirely different era in the history of gambling and casinos. Long before modern web-based casino sites and online poker rooms, Vegas the place for any gambling lover of any kind. The movie takes place in the 1960's Las Vegas, when it was still more of gambling Mecca and less a theme park for all family. In this classic film Robert De Niro plays Ace Rothstein, a gifted gambler that is stated by his Mafia bosses to manage the Tangiers hotel. The film portrays Vegas almost in the peek of its glamour. The styling and production of this film are stunning. The casinos are not shown through flat and one dimensional prism of black and white. The movie shows both the good and the bad sides of casino, its promise of opportunity but also the ambiguous morality of its owners.

Although many people claim that Casino has very little to offer after seeing other films by Scorsese, I personally disagree. The movie is very colorful and is a must-see to any gambling lover. Very few movies have shown us what happens behind the scene of a Vegas casino as well as this movie. In addition to De Niro's spectacular performance this movie is a jewel that should not be missed.
